Dear Students and Parents of Washington Alternative Learning Center:
I would like to take this opportunity to introduce myself. I am Rodney F. Knox, Principal; I am a native of Chattanooga, Tennessee and a product of the Chattanooga Public Schools. I have been an administrator with Hamilton County for the past 11 years. Prior to becoming an administrator, I have served as a general and special education teacher for over 15 years. I have taught in various educational settings including elementary, middle, high and collegiate levels.
I began my college career in Business Administration, however, while at Lane College, I became fascinated with working with people from all walks of life. Therefore, I changed my major to elementary education and received a bachelor’s degree. Continuing my focus in education I earned a Masters of Arts in Special Education and an Ed. D in Educational Leadership from Tennessee State University. I am also proud parent of two sons, Cameron and Cody, both of whom enjoy learning and participating in every sport known to man especially basketball, track, and football.
My philosophy on education is very straight forward; I believe that all children will learn when given the necessary tools to achieve in an ever changing society. I also believe that a data driven curriculum with a humanistic approach is necessary to challenge both teachers and students to focus on each student’s specific educational needs. Research has demonstrated that teachers who hold high expectations for students usually achieve favorable results. Likewise, when administrators have high expectations for teachers it is mirrored in their interactions of a nurtured and motivated environment that will harvest success for all.
I appreciate the opportunity to continue the rich tradition and heritage of Washington. I feel privileged, to initiate new programs and support the teachers, and successful programs established here at Washington. Please feel free to call me if you have questions or concerns, I offer an open door policy, with a listening ear.
Sincerely,
Rodney F. Knox, Ed. D
