School Counselor

Calendar

Guidance and counseling services are available to all Washington Alternative students. The counselor is part of the intake team which reviews the student's transcript/grades and coordinates the class schedule with the student's school of origin. Our goal is to help the student meet academic goals and stay on track for graduation. The counselor is also available as a resource to provide confidential services to individual students and parents on identified issues as needed. From time to time, group counseling is available through various organizations such as STARS, and CADAS. Topics include goal setting, time management, self-esteem, dealing with grief, conflict resolution and decision making skills. Individual counseling can be scheduled by the parent through Lighthouse, Richmont or Family and Children Services on issues that are personal and confidential.

Students are encouraged to take advantage of career interest and assessment tools that are available via computer. Students at Washington will be given the same battery of tests that are mandated for all students in Hamilton County, i.e. TCAP and End of Course-EOC testing. High school students are provided information on post secondary options.

The school counselor is available to assist in making academic decisions, resolving social problems, career guidance, behavior and motivational referrals, and to aid in crisis intervention. If you would like to make an appointment to meet with the counselor regarding areas of concern, please call the school at 423-893-3520.
